Despite a steady rain on Sunday, February 18, 2024, the 5th Annual Georgefest Open Team Tournament, sponsored by Gibson Construction and Florida Bass Nation, went on as scheduled in the City of Eustis.
In honor of PFC Derek Gibson, Bronze Star recipient from Eustis, who was killed in action during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007, the event attracted a total of 39 teams. The winning team of Dennis Young and Herman Young brought in black bass weighing 21.35 pounds, winning $2,500. Austin Mairena and Joey Bloom had the heaviest catch, with a bass weighing 6.6 pounds.
