Eustis Upgrades Park Pages with Weather Tracking

The City of Eustis Park and Recreation Department is integrating innovative weather tracking software into the City’s website to provide residents with convenient and accurate weather updates.
In March of 2025, Eustis Parks and Recreation installed state-of-the-art lightening detection systems at Carla Gann-Thompson “GT” Dog Park, Carver Park, the Eustis Aquatics Center and Sunset Island Park. These systems provide parkgoers with additional protection against dangerous weather in the area by detecting lighting strikes within a 10-mile radius. When lighting strikes within that area, sirens alert all park visitors to seek shelter.
Now, at the beginning of hurricane season in Florida, residents will be able to see these alerts in real time on the City of Eustis website from any location. Weather tracking displays have been added to the four park pages on the website, showing real-time weather information. Access the pages at:
The display features a green checkmark, indicating that the area is clear of lightning. When lightening is detected within a 0 – 10-mile radius, a red clock will be displayed, counting down until it is safe to re-enter the parks.
“This addition is the next step in our commitment to outdoor safety,” said Sam Brinson, Director of Eustis Parks and Recreation. “The new website integration makes real-time weather information more accessible, ensuring our parks remain enjoyable and safe for our community.”
Signage has also been installed at each park with a lightening detection system providing a QR Code that visitors can scan to see the same weather tracking display that is on the website.
Parkgoers are encouraged to make use of the weather displays on the website when planning a visit to the Eustis Aquatics Center, where the pool will need to be closed for 30 minutes following lightning strikes within a 10-mile radius.
