The Eustis Memorial Library will be hosting 4 sessions of Your Next Chapter

Throughout these four sessions, you will learn more about navigating finances after loss, divorce or life transitions.

 

Session 1 focuses on rebuilding financial confidence by introducing the basics of cash flow and budgeting during times of transition. Participants will learn how to clearly identify and categorize their income and expenses, helping them regain a sense of control and stability in their financial lives.

The session includes a guided expense audit using a simple spreadsheet tool, allowing participants to track spending and recognize patterns. It also explains how to read a paycheck, including deductions, take home pay, and common terms, so participants can better understand their current income and plan for what comes next.


Session 2 builds on financial recovery by focusing on understanding credit and organizing important financial documents during times of change. Participants will learn what credit is, why it matters, and how it can impact future financial opportunities such as housing, loans, and utilities. T

he session explores practical ways to build or improve a credit score, along with how to safely check credit reports and recognize signs of fraud or identity theft. Participants will also review key financial and personal documents they may need moving forward, including those related to benefits or recent life changes. The session concludes with time to begin putting together a personalized financial plan, helping participants take clear and confident next steps.


Session 3 focuses on understanding and managing debt as part of building a more stable financial future. Participants will explore the difference between helpful and harmful debt, gaining clarity on how various types of debt can affect their financial well being.

The session introduces practical strategies for paying down debt, including approaches that prioritize either balance size or interest rates. Participants will use a guided spreadsheet to list their current debts and begin creating a realistic timeline for repayment. The concept of debt to income ratio is also explained, helping participants understand how their debt compares to their income and how it can influence future financial decisions.


Session 4 focuses on rebuilding financial security through saving and investing, helping participants plan for both short term needs and long term stability. The session introduces different types of savings strategies, with practical examples that can be adapted to changing financial situations.

Participants will learn how compound growth works and why starting early, even with small amounts, can make a meaningful difference over time. The session also explains key retirement tools such as Roth and Traditional IRAs and how workplace plans like a 401k function. Life insurance is discussed as part of an overall financial picture, showing how it can provide protection and support future planning. Together, these topics help participants begin creating a path toward greater financial confidence and independence.
