Due to a recent lightning storm, the Grand Island water treatment plant was severely damaged and is temporarily out of service. To maintain service, residents in the Grand Island area are receiving water from an alternate plant and may notice lower-than-normal water pressure.Repair crews are working now, and we expect the Grand Island plant to be back online within 48 hours.
The St. John's River Water Management District has issued a Phase III Extreme Water Shortage Order, which included Lake County. Restrictions include: One day a week watering, odd numbered addresses on Saturday, even numbered addresses on Sunday, nonresidential on Tuesday, and prohibited between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
UPDATE: Due to weather, the outdoor activities have been postponed. Participants can still join the celebration at the Saturday, Jan. 17 and Sunday, Jan. 18 events.
Take part in the 2025 MLK Celebration weekend on Saturday, Jan. 17 - Monday, Jan. 19, powered by Shikita with Legaci Financial Services and Empower U 1st. The theme of this year's MLK Celebration is "Living the Dream: United in Purpose, Committed to Change!".
The event begins with an MLK Community Breakfast at 8 a.m. in the Tavares Civic Center on Saturday, Jan. 17.
The weekend celebration continues with an Ecumenical Service at 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Lake County (UUCLC) in Eustis.
On Monday, Jan. 19 beginning at 9 a.m. in Palmetto Plaza, there will be a Continental Breakfast followed by a Unity Walk and KingFest26 celebration in Ferran Park.
