Rail Rehabilitation Project

The Florida Department of Transportation has recently approved the first rehab bill for a Florida Central Railroad (FCEN) rail improvement project. This Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) Rail Rehabilitation project calls for the upgrade of a 57-mile stretch of rails between Orlando and Umatilla.

Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2013.

The entire rail upgrade project is a joint effort between FCEN, the Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization, Metroplan Orlando, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Cities of Tavares, Eustis, Umatilla, Mount Dora, Apopka, Winter Garden, Ocoee and Orlando, and Orange and Lake counties.
