Museum launches “Family Foundations” Roundtable with the Ferran Family

Eustis, FL - The Eustis Historical Museum and Preservation Society, which works to preserve the history of the Central Florida town, presents the first roundtable in the “Family Foundations” series this Thursday, September 29th at 7:00 pm.  The discussion will focus on early Eustis founder E.L. Ferran and the influence he and his family had on Eustis.

“Mr. Ferran moved his family to Eustis in 1884 and opened a dry goods store,” says Museum President Tim Totten.  “Before he died in 1923, he had been a city councilman, one of the first bond trustees for Lake County and owner of the Lake Region Newspaper.”

The roundtable discussion, which will last for about an hour and include members of the Ferran family and others associated with the now-closed Ferran’s Department Store, will be held in the building that housed the retail establishment for so many years.  Located at 12 East Magnolia in Downtown Eustis, the property is now home to Michael’s Restaurant.

“This is a great opportunity to learn about an influential founding family,” says Totten.  “Anyone who’s ever wondered why Eustis’ lakefront recreation facility is named Ferran Park should attend.”
