Eustis, FL –
When a Fan Photo
Contest was announced Monday, April 2nd on the City’s Facebook page,
it was not anticipated at how successful it would become by the contest deadline
at noon on Thursday, April 5th. 28 photos, reflecting the beauty of
Eustis, were submitted with a total of 613 votes cast.
The winner of the
Eustis Fan Photo Contest was Kristy Rohwedder of Eustis with 73 votes. The
second place winner, Kareen Rashelle, also of Eustis, received 47 votes. Third
place went to Molly Howell, a student at UCF from Eustis, with 45 votes.
Kristy’s winning photo is now displayed on the City’s Facebook cover photo, as
well as being used as the City’s profile image on the site.
Kristy, an amateur
photographer, moved to Eustis from Orlando six years ago when she fell in love
with Lake County. For the winning photo, she used a Canon Rebel T2i.
“My favorite place
to take pictures is my backyard, which is where this was photo was shot,” said
Mrs. Rohwedder. “I enjoy watching eagles nesting in my front yard and watching
sailboats go by in the backyard. The sunsets are always impressive too!”
The photo
competition was simple. Any member of the public who follows Eustis on Facebook,
amateur or professional, was eligible to submit a Eustis-themed photo, taken by
them, to the page. A limit of one photo submission per person became a
requirement during the first day of the competition so that the contest would be
easier to manage. Fans were encouraged to vote via the “like” button for their
favorite submission throughout the competition period.
“We have a very
photogenic city with a gorgeous downtown and the best sunsets in Lake County,”
said Richard Hoon, Assistant to the City Manager for Community Relations. “The
number and quality of the submissions were quite amazing! Photo submissions,
coupled with the voter participation and resulting traffic on the site, is a
clear indicator of the pride in our City felt by residents and visitors.”
More
Fan Photo Contests will be held in the future, with the next theme identified as
First Friday Street Fests. The next First Friday Street Fest will be Friday,
April 6th from 6-10 pm.
Since 2007, Eustis has been using Facebook and other social networking sites as
