Eustis, FL
– The Eustis City
Commission agreed to move forward with an alternative level of residential solid
waste and recycling collection service. Under the plan, both solid waste and
recycling roll-out containers will be provided by Waste Management, the City’s
franchise hauler.
The system is
designed to go to once-a-week solid waste pickup and the “single stream”
recycling collection, which will allow a larger number of items to be recycled.
This service has been designed to reduce fuel consumption and the single stream
recycling will allow for more of the waste stream to be recycled and reduce the
amount of waste taken to the landfills.
There will also be
cost savings to the customer. The cost of the alternative system equates to a
$2.00 per month savings to residential customers. Eustis also will qualify for a
recycling rewards program that would allow for participants to go online and get
money saving coupons from national and hopefully local partners.

Management with the new service level. |

The system will take
up to 4 months to fully implement, since the roll-out containers must be ordered
and the collection equipment acquired. Waste Management has committed use
compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles in Eustis as soon as the vehicles and
fueling facilities are established locally. Waste Management has also committed
to recycle all recyclable goods received, regardless of the recycling markets.
The City Commission
will take the final steps to move this alternative service forward during its
regular meeting on January 19, 2012 at 6:00 pm. There will more information
provided to the Eustis residential customers over the next couple of months.
Implementation of the alternative system is scheduled to begin no later than
June 1, 2012.
