Amazing Race for Charity Announces

2019 Beneficiaries

EUSTIS, Fla. (September 18, 2018) – Each year in April, hundreds of racers descend upon Eustis to tackle more than 20 wacky, fun challenges at area businesses, schools, and parks as part of the Amazing Race for Charity.  During its initial five years, the race’s 300-plus annual volunteers have raised more than $135,000 for local charities.

“The Amazing Race for Charity is unique because it raises money for roughly a dozen non-profit organizations all on the same day,” says Jill Baker, one of the race’s founding board members who is in charge of sponsorships.  “We are able to not only donate tens of thousands of dollars to these local charities, but we connect hundreds of people to raise awareness.”

The five-member board recently reviewed charity applications for the 2019 race and chose twelve area non-profit organizations to receive the bulk of the proceeds from the April 6, 2019 event.  Those charities include:

Abracadabra Foundation
Alee Academy Charter School
Canine Companions for Courage
Central Florida Dreamplex
Early Learning Coalition
Educational Foundation of Lake County
Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation
Golden Triangle YMCA
Ruth House
Strut Your Mutt
Take Stock in Children
The Open Door

The list includes organizations that the Amazing Race for Charity has supported every year, including the Ruth House, a transitional shelter for women in crisis, and the Educational Foundation of Lake County, which provides support to teachers and students in Lake County Schools.  The Amazing Race for Charity Board also added two new groups, Companions for Courage and the Central Florida Dreamplex.

Support from groups like the Amazing Race for Charity allows us to help even more children,” says Joanne Rittenhouse form Companions for Courage. “These children are asked to testify in difficult situations and our trained dogs help give them the courage to be brave in court.
