Notice of Regular Meetings of the

Eustis Historic Preservation Board for 2010

Notice is hereby given that the Eustis Historic Preservation Board of the City of Eustis will hold their meetings at City Hall, 10 North Grove Street, Eustis, Florida at 5:30 p.m. on the following dates in 2010:

  • January 12 (5:00 pm)

  • March 9

  • May 11

  • July 13

  • September 14

  • November 9

Persons with disabilities needing assistance to participate in any of these proceedings should contact the office of the City Clerk at (352) 483-5440, at least 48 hours before the date of the scheduled meeting.

If a person decides to appeal any decision made by any board, agency or commission with respect to any matter considered at such meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings and that, for such purposes, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is based (Florida Statutes, 286.0105).

The Purpose of Historic Preservation

Increasingly in Florida, historic and cultural resources are threatened by development or by neglect due to limited resources or a lack of appreciation for the value of these resources. But they are links to the past, they make communities like Eustis unique, giving them a “sense of place,” and they provide a source of community pride and identity. More importantly, historic properties allow for the education of present and future generations of their place and time in the continuum [of] the human experience. The purpose of historic preservation is not to halt growth or change, because it is recognized that both are needed to keep a community alive. The purpose of historic preservation is to integrate the past with the present and the future.

Applications

  Local Landmark Designation Process Brochure

A Certificate of Appropriateness is necessary for any renovation or addition made to a contributing structure within the Washington Avenue Historic District or a Local Landmark. The application allows the Historic Preservation Board to insure that any proposed renovation is in character with the District. It also gives the Historic Preservation Board the ability to insure that the proposed materials used match the original materials as closely as possible.  Applications should be submitted 15 days prior to the scheduled meeting dates.
